Traveling from the human capital of Stormwind to the snowy, isolated zone of Winterspring in Northern Kalimdor can seem like a long journey for Alliance players. Because these two iconic locations sit on completely different continents, navigating the travel routes requires a mix of boat rides, flight paths, and overland travel. Understanding the best directions will save you significant time and ensure a smooth trek across Azeroth.
Crossing the Great Sea to Kalimdor
Your journey begins in Stormwind City, where you need to reach the harbor located on the northwestern edge of the metropolis. Head to the northernmost pier to catch the boat that sails directly to Auberdine in Darkshore or Rut'theran Village in Teldrassil, depending on your expansion version. Boarding this ship is the fastest way for Alliance characters to cross the ocean and reach the western continent.
Once the ship completes its voyage and arrives in Kalimdor, step onto the docks and secure the local flight path right away. Having this transport hub unlocked makes future trips across the continent much easier to manage. From this coastal starting point, you are ready to venture inland toward the mountainous regions.
Navigating Through Ashenvale and Felwood
From Darkshore, travel south along the main road until you cross the border into the lush forests of Ashenvale. Follow the path eastern through Ashenvale until you reach the northern road leading into the corrupted zone of Felwood. Navigating Felwood requires sticking carefully to the main trail to avoid aggressive high-level creatures patrolling the woods.
Continue traveling north along the central road through Felwood until you reach the far northern end of the zone. Deep within the northern pass, you will discover Timbermaw Hold, a subterranean tunnel network guarded by the Timbermaw furbolgs. This passage serves as the primary gateway leading directly into the frozen wastes of Winterspring.
Passing Through Timbermaw Hold Safely
Entering Winterspring requires traversing Timbermaw Hold, which can be hostile or peaceful depending on your reputation with the faction. If your reputation is unfavorable, you must either fight your way through the cave or carefully sneak past the guards using stealth mechanics. Alternatively, earning hostile-neutral status with the Timbermaw tribe allows you to walk through the tunnel completely unhindered.
If fighting or sneaking through the cave is too difficult, lower-level players can attempt to run past the guards quickly using speed boosts. Once you emerge from the eastern exit of the tunnel, the snowy landscape of Winterspring will immediately open up before you. Make sure to head straight to the main settlement of Everlook to unlock the local flight path and secure a safe hub for future adventures.
